Abstract

Sumario: I. Introducción. II.

The article aims to introduce readers to Joseph Ratzinger's reflection on vicarious representation (“Stellvertretung”) from the pages of Introduction to Christianity dedicated to the mystery of Jesus Christ. The vicarious representation is a prominent category in the theology of the Pope Emeritus that has been little explored so far. Through it one can delve into both the foundations of Ratzinger's Christology (first section) and the distinctiveness of his soteriological proposal (second section). Jesus Christ, whose person is characterized by the unity of being-mission, “is” representation (being for the others who take his place) and brings to fulfillment man's attempts to be represented before God through worship.
