Abstract

This article addresses the teaching of work within contemporary social moral theology, examining its relevance in light of three current challenges: job insecurity, the subjective experience of work, and the impact of new technologies. It then explores the aspects of work that should be prioritized from the perspective of Social Moral Theology, proposing an approach that integrates both personal and social/structural dimensions, and highlighting the theological meaning of work within the divine plan. Finally, four structural issues of particular importance for Social Moral Theology are considered: unemployment, the working conditions of two specific groups – workers in so-called sweatshops and those employed in the long-term care sector – the role of the family, and environmental stewardship.
