The article retraces the priestly path of Saint Josemaría Escrivá from his formative years (1917–1925) to 1950, when diocesan priests were able to join Opus Dei while remaining incardinated in their own dioceses. It examines the spiritual and pastoral roots of his vocation, the vision of the diocesan priesthood he developed in Logroño and Zaragoza, his experience in Madrid and the foundation of Opus Dei, as well as his commitment to the sanctification and formation of clergy. The study highlights how Escrivá conceived the priesthood as a total service to souls and as a path of ecclesial renewal, culminating in the Priestly Society of the Holy Cross.
