Abstract

The study considers the principal elements of the Biblical doctrine of the resurrection of the dead at the end of time. In comparison with the understanding of the other world typical of classical authors and oriental religions, the doctrine of resurrection affirms the omnipotence of God the Creator, the universality of the offer of salvation and the eternal value of the material world. It calls into question the doctrine of reincarnation and the praxis of cremation; in a special way it provides a catalytic impulse for the development of anthropology.
