Il tema del Christus verus sol nella letteratura cristiana antica

Abstract

Il risultato dell’incontro di Cristo con il culto solare dell’antichità determinò niente meno che il tramonto della religione pagana. Fin dall’inizio la Chiesa portò nel mondo pagano la conoscenza chiara e certa di un Dio che aveva creato il sole e le stelle. La Chiesa rispose alle aspirazioni religiose dei Romani con una testimonianza di vera conoscenza. Essa sapeva che l’uomo era chiamato a un culto, basato sulla fede in un Dio che si era fatto uomo in Gesù Cristo, e le implicazioni di tale certezza furono tanto ottimistiche quanto convincenti, visto che determinarono una sublimazione definitiva e senza compromessi di tutte le cose terrene verso il piano soprannaturale. Concentrandosi sul binomio Cristo/luce, il presente lavoro si propone di esplorare alcuni punti di contatto tra la cultura pagana e il mondo cristiano.

The result of the Church’s encounter with the sun-cult of antiquity was nothing less than the rejection of the pagan religion. From the very beginning the Church entered the pagan world with the clear and certain knowledge of a God who created the sun and the stars. The Church responded to the pious aspirations of the Romans with a piece of concrete knowledge. She known that man is called to a fellowship, based on faith in a God who was made man in Jesus Christ, and the implications of that certitude were as joyous as they are compelling. So she involved a definitive and uncompromising sublimation of all earthly things on to the supernatural plane.

Focusing on the person of Christ associated to the light, the present paper aims to explore some aspects of the relation between the pagan culture and the Christian world.
