The subject of the article is the theme of Jesus, the High Priest in the Letter to the Hebrews. Jesus’ priesthood, which is quite distinct from the model of priesthood characteristic of the Old Testament, is absolutely new and effective in portraying the saving mediation. The article emphasizes the particular characteristics of the Sacerdotal Christology of Jesus in Hebrews. Concerning the being of Christ the focus is placed on the divinity and humanity of the new High Priest. On the other hand the mode of Christ being a priest is reflected in His full solidarity with mankind, His filial obedience to the Father, and the way of being a priest according to the order of Melchisedek. The benefit of the mediation of the Christ is the new covenant. Afterward, the article demonstrates the greatness of Christ, who is the High Priest, but not only that : indeed, Hebrews describes the Savior with another 14 christological titles and He is identified in the last one as the « great shepherd » who must be followed. Thereby, the priesthood of Christ becomes the highest paradigm with which the Christian priesthood should be compared, the model of any effective mediation.
